Stocks, Mutual Funds, and Make Up – Part 1

Yes, I’ve finally done it… I’ve found a way to use my obsession with make up to talk about investing! In this segment we’re going to talk about the difference between a stock and a mutual fund. It’s investing 101 with make up!

I’m sure I’ve never seen such a girly explanation of investing. Great job.

Great Job Michelle. And when picking out make up individually they might not go well together / hence not diversified. You have to be ready for just about any situation like work, a football game, or a night out. Also when you sit down at the make up counter at Nordstrom why is it those girls ( sometimes guys?? )always do a killer job? Need a coach anyone?

    Michelle,
I loved your presentation and analogy to makeup.
See you in Austin if you are going to be there.

Shel, that was awesome. It takes wisdom to simplify a complicated concept. Nice job. And just like some people do better with a different color palette different people have various risk return preferences that help make up “the colors” in their pie chart. This is a cool analogy!

Great Analogy Michelle, I’m going to try it out this afternoon at a couples playoff football party this afternoon. My guess is you could use the Toobox for the men.

I am clueless when it comes to color coordination, but I get the mutual fund metaphor. A bit of genius from the female perspective.

As a fellow make-up junkie…I totally get this! What a simple analogy using something we are all familiar with. I second Mark’s notion…It takes wisdom to simplify a complicated concept! I even showed this video to my 8 year olds and at the end asked, if they had their own portfolio, would they rather own an idividual stock or a mutual fund? Their answer: “Mutual fund because if one loses money you have lots of others that can make money”. So simple even an 8 year old gets it! Way to go!
